Father Mike to Preach on the Nicene Creed

Walking into a room, there is a decoration carved in wood of the word, "Believe." Believe. This is a word which is very casually tossed around in our society. But, believe in what? What are we supposed to be believing in?
In America, we can believe in AVATARs, tinker bell, Santa and the Easter Bunny; we believe in "you", political philosophies and in diversity. We believe in testimony, we believe we know the facts, and we believe in other people's beliefs. Believe: very dilute.
In the church, the word "believe" takes on a whole new meaning. The statements of what we believe are central to who we are as the body of Christ. "We believe in One God..." is the beginning of a creed that we recite on Sunday mornings. The Nicene Creed is not a promise, a vow, or a constitution, but it is an ascertainment of what makes us Christians. By speaking it, we are declaring the tenets of our doctrine and confessing our faith in Jesus Christ.
This summer, Father Mike will be preaching on the words and statements contained in this ancient creed. Line by line he will discuss the meaning and importance of the statements in the Nicene creed so that the assertations in it are not lost to repeated recitation, but rather stand out as bold statements of our Christian faith.
Come hear and learn at any of Sunday services. Click Here for a resource page on the Nicene Creed.

Deacon James writes:
In August of this year I am planning a mission trip to tour the Burmese refugee camps along the Thailand Burma border. What I hope to achieve on this trip is to gain a better understanding of where the refugees from my parish, St David’s Church, have come from and gain insight on how I can better serve their needs now that they are here in our community.
As I prepare for this trip I am meeting with many of the Burmese families of St David's in an effort to gather names, addresses and camp names of the many family members and loved ones that have been left behind. I have promised these parishioners that I would do my best to try and make contact with all of them, bringing them letters and photos from their families in America and spending time praying with them, assuring them that they are not forgotten. I will remind them that God loves them and that there are people in the US who care about them and who are willing to work hard to help them find a way to freedom. I also plan to bring to these families basic food items and medicine that either might be very expensive in the camps, in short supply or not available at all.
For the last month I have been raising money to finance this mission trip. Many people have been very generous in donating to the effort. The congregation from St David’s is invested in this trip and has given generously and has supported me in enthusiasm and in prayer. As of today I am still over $1000.00 short of my goal to meet the minimum amount I need to make the trip. If you are willing and are in a finical position to contribute to help fund my mission trip please make your check payable to St David’s Church and send it to the following address:
