Talking
You can converse with God by talking, either aloud, or silently.
Journal
Sometimes people are better at writing than speaking. You can write your prayers to God, kind of like writing a letter or a journal. In fact, click here to start your own on-line journal. Journaling is also a neat way to pray, because you can look back later to see how prayer has been answered.
Prayer Beads
A form of verbal prayer, praying with beads also gives one a sensory experience from touching each bead as you pray, and helps the mind to focus with repetition. Click here for directions on praying with beads (this is a "rosary for children reference, but honestly, it's good for adults too). To purchase beads, contact the Christ-the-King Gift Shop.
Prayer Groups
Sometimes praying by yourself can be difficult when you are learning. Consider joining a prayer group where you all pray together. Even if you are an experienced pray-er, group prayer can really add to your prayer experience.
Reading the Bible/Meditation
Prayer is not only about talking to God, but also about listening to Him. God speaks to us through his Word, the Bible. Read a passage, and then read it again. Think about what it means literally. Think about what it tells you about God. Think about what it tells you personally. For bible reading plans, click here. Also, you can view a "Verse of the Day."
Song and Art
Perhaps God has given you artistic talent! Praise him by creating a masterpiece for him. Or, if you like to sing or play an instrument, select a hymn to sing to Him. Perhaps just listen to some Christian music.
Acts of Service
Do something in His name for His honor and glory by serving Him in our parish or in the community. For example, volunteer to do some raking at church, or take a shut-in to a doctor appointment. As you serve, be mindful of His presence and offer it up to Him.
