Specialist Peters returns from Iraq!
Great news! Our War Correspondent, Robert Peters III, returned safely from service in Iraq to to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii on March 6, 2009 where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge for performing his duties "under hostile fire while serving in an assigned infantry forces primary duty, in a unit actively engaged in ground combat with the enemy..." In addition to being awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, he is being promoted to Specialist.

I am doing very well over here and trying to keep as safe as possible. i am in the infantry so i do all the fighting if and when there is fighting to be done. we do a lot raiding homes of suspected terrorists because they dont fight us with guns they fight with bombs buried in the ground or other various ways of hiding them. i thank you for ur prayers and your church’s supporting me and my fellow troops and i will most certainly take a gander at your ministry's web site i just do not have the time today...we dont sleep eat or shower much at all so when i get the chance i do so. and now is one of them haha. OH if any of your fellow church attendees wanted to know it hovers at a nice 115 - 125 degrees every day so its very hot…

well i wanna thank all of your church for your prayers and i hope they remain answered. For right now the living conditions have seriously improved since i arrived april 15th. but they still remain well confined. my platoon stays in a room of a schoolhouse that my company has refitted as our headquaters. the school is not large at all actually the size of a large home. 200+ people live here and its a tight fit.
As far as my job is concerned we do a lot missions and sleep when possible. we control a small city about 1 mile north to south by 1.5 miles east to west with about 45,000 people. we do a lot of presence patrols during the daytime to let the people here know Hey we are here.
they do not attack us too much. the enemy usually will attack iraqi police and sons of iraq (neighborhood watch with ak47). we pay these SOI's to have checkpoints to stop terrorist activity which makes them a target. unfortunately we do get attacked ever so often. now the small amount of terrorists still operating inside the city cannot fight us face to face for obvious reasons so they feel the need for snipers, IEDS, and mortars. On the 4th of july we were mortared at night. fortunately no injurys.
I wish i could tell you more but i cant because the enemy does have computers and mission security is very important to prevent ambush or bombings. One thing i can tell you is about a month ago i found a big cache of military ordinance soon to be made into deadly ieds buried on a cache hunt and was awarded a coin of excellence by my battalion commander which was very cool and i have pictures on a web site heres the link: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=22537&l=31a54&id=512934893 …

…i got a chance to check out the [web]site very nice i didnt get too thorough but the temperature reading is very cool i can go on and find out the temp here cuz we dont have thermometers. also i didnt know ur pastor was an army chaplian thats very cool…

i greatly apologize for not replying in so long...... on aug 10 i went out with my squad (14 men) and only 11 came back unharmed a suicide bomber hit my teamleader killing him but not before completely dismantling his body 2 more americans were hurt and our interpreter. 6 more civilians died.... it has been on the news ..... i was there and it was devastating to watch it happen right in front of me. thats why i have not been online...
that day i was trying to be a medic for americans and civilians of iraq .... i had to treat battle wounds from a true terrorist who gave his life so he could kill as many ppl as possible it was truly horrible. and the loss of sgt kenneth b gibson is a tradegy please pray for his family mainly his wife nikki Gibson (no kids) he was a hero shielding me from the blast unknowingly he happened to come around the corner at the right time saving my life other wise it would have been me ..... we had a memorial service for him the other day and there was not 1 dry eye out of 200 men he was hero and a great man…

yes i did get the packages i got 11 packages all at once haha i was overwhelmed but much appreciated i shared with everyone...i will be home for 18 days then back to iraq...
