Stewardship Committee

2008: "All Things Come of Thee O Lord"

You could ask, "What are we doing this year to promote stewardship?"

- OR -

You could ask, "What are we doing this year to celebrate stewarship?"

Celebrating stewardship sounds like a strange concept, because mostly we think of parting with something, namely our money.

But stewardship is so much more than that.  Certainly it means financial offering, because let's face it, without money, our church cannot operate.  But stewardship also means using our resources wisely, giving of our time, performing a special act of service, volunteering to do a practical task, and so many other things.   Stewarship refers to God giving us something to take care of, and expecting us to do something with it and protect it.

What has God given you?  Money...that you might provide for your house, but also for His house.  Talent...that you might use your skill to promote His Kingdom.  Time...that you might spend some of your time in service or worship of Him.

"...and of thine own, have we given thee."

Understanding Stewardship

The following questions may help us to understand stewardship:

  • Does charity begin at home?
  • Can money buy happiness?
  • Can you take it with you?
  • What does the Bible say about giving?

"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

As it is written: 'He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever.'

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God."

2 Corinthians 9:6-11 NIV
